สมาคมสื่อมวลชนฮอลลีวูด (Hollywood Foreign Press Association : HFPA) ได้ประกาศรายชื่อภาพยนตร์ที่จะได้เข้าชิงรางวัลลูกโลกทองคำ (Golden Globe Award) ในสาขาต่างๆ
The Shape of Water ของผู้กำกับ กิลเลอร์โม่ เดอ โทโร่ ที่ได้รับรางวัลในสาขาใหญ่จากการเทศกาลภาพยนตร์ต่างๆ ได้มีชื่อเข้าชิงสูงสุดถึง 7 รางวัล ส่วน The Post ของผู้กำกับ สตีเวน สปีลเบิร์ก ก็ได้เข้าชิงถึง 6 รางวัล เช่นเดียวกับภาพยนตร์ม้ามืดในปีนี้อย่าง Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
และสำหรับภาพยนตร์ซูเปอร์ฮีโร่ที่ประสบความสำเร็จอย่าง Wonder Woman และ Logan ซึ่งทางสตูดิโอได้พยายามผลักดันให้มีชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัลในสาขาหลักมากขึ้นในปีนี้ กลับไม่ปรากฏชื่อในรายการเข้าชิงเลย
